Gaibandha: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 rescued a 14-year-old schoolgirl and arrested three alleged abductors in Gaibandha early today. The arrestees are Md Bellal Hossain, 33, and his brother Md Bidyut, 28, both from Dakshin Samas village under Sundarganj police station, and Md Babul Hossain, 35, of Beradanga Bazar village under Gaibandha Sadar police station, according to a RAB press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victim, a ninth-grade student of a local girls' high school, was allegedly abducted on July 31 while she was on her way to school. The case statement filed by the girl's father revealed that Bellal had repeatedly harassed the victim with unwanted romantic proposals. Upon her rejection and informing her parents, Bellal allegedly threatened her.
The incident occurred on July 31 at around 9:30 am when Bellal and his associates allegedly forced the girl into an auto-rickshaw and took her to an undisclosed location. Consequently, the girl's father filed a kidnapping case with Sundarganj police station on August 5.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the RAB-13 Gaibandha Camp conducted a raid in Dakshin Samas village around 12:45 am Monday, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects. The rescued girl and the arrested suspects were handed over to Sundarganj police for further legal action.
