Sylhet: Newly appointed Administrator of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Abdul Quiyum Choudhury today formally assumed office. He took charge at the corporation’s office at noon, where outgoing administrator and Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md Reza-un-Nabi handed over the responsibilities to him.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, speaking after assuming office, Quiyum expressed his aim to build a beautiful and clean city with the cooperation of all. He emphasized that ensuring services for city dwellers would be the main goal, with a focus on making the city mosquito-free and maintaining cleanliness.
Quiyum noted that Sylhet is represented by two ministers in the new cabinet – Industries, Commerce, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury. He added that their cooperation would be sought to ensure maximum services and development for residents.
Earlier in the day, at around 11:30 am, Quiyum arrived in Sylhet from Dhaka at Osmani International Airport. From the airport, he visited the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal and Hazrat Shah Paran.
The responsibility handover ceremony saw the presence of Executive Engineer of the city corporation Rezai Rafin Sarkar, other officials of the corporation, leaders and activists of different political parties, representatives of civil society, and media personnel.
