Dhaka: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has scheduled August 26 for a hearing on review petitions seeking the restoration of the 13th amendment to the constitution and the reinstatement of the poll-time non-party caretaker government (CG) system. The decision was reached by a six-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, following a request from Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir, representing Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir mentioned the case before the court to expedite the hearing process. The Attorney General has been informed, and all parties involved will be notified to prepare for the upcoming session. The review petitions include filings from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Miah Golam Parwar, and five noted citizens including Badiul Alam Majumdar, Secretary of the rights organization Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik. These petitions will be heard concurrently on the specified date.
The High Court previously declared the scrapping of the caretaker government system from the constitution as illegal on December 17, 2024. Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman remarked to journalists that the High Court's judgment has reinstated the caretaker system as part of the constitution.
