Pirojpur:Freedom fighter Manik Pashari, a key witness in the crimes against humanity case against the late Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee, was buried at his home in Chitolia village, Pirojpur Sadar upazila, amid tight police security early Sunday morning.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Pashari's body was buried around 2 am on the premises of his home. Earlier, when the body was brought to the Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Parishad premises on Saturday noon, family members faced protests from local Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, activists, and some local people. The police later assisted in taking the body to the police lines, where it was kept under tight security following a guard of honour at 5 pm.

The burial was completed in the presence of Pashari's wife, children, and local residents. Abdur Razzak, assistant secretary of Pirojpur district Jamaat-e-Islami, stated that no party leaders obstructed the burial and that they cooperated fully with the police. Officer-in-Charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Md Shariful Islam confirmed the burial was conducted under strict security, with additional police deployed to prevent any incidents.

Pashari's sister, Mosammat Rina Akter, mentioned that the family faced difficulties bringing the body for burial. Pashari, who was a resident of Ward No. 7 in Chitolia village, had been hiding in Jashore and Gopalganj following a mass uprising in 2024. He passed away at his daughter's father-in-law's house in Gopalganj after a prolonged illness.

Sayedee, the convicted war criminal, was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 in 2013, but his sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court. He died in 2023 while receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
