Salman, Anisul, and Four Others Arrested in Kafrul Killing Case

Dhaka: A court here today ordered the arrest of six individuals, including Salman F Rahman, the former private industry affairs adviser to the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and former law minister Anisul Huq, in connection with the murder of trader Atiqul Islam in the city’s Kafrul area during the anti-discrimination student movement.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the other four individuals arrested in the case include former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam, former state minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, and former inspectors general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and AKM Shahidul Haque. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partho Bhadra passed the order as the police presented the six before the court, requesting their arrest in the case. Following the court order, the individuals were sent back to jail.



Atiqul Islam was fatally shot behind the BRTA office in the Kafrul area on the afternoon of July 19. A case related to this incident was filed on December 23, implicating 40 people, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.



Salman F Rahman was apprehended from the capital’s Sadarghat area on August 13, 2024, while attempting to flee along with former law minister Anisul Huq via the waterways. Shahidul Haque and Mamun were arrested in separate operations by the detective branch of police on September 3. Advocate Qamrul was arrested from the capital’s Uttara area on November 18, and Kamal Majumder was arrested in the city’s Gulshan area the following day.
