Dhaka: Pakistan Captain Salman Agha said the wretched batting display in the first powerplay (first six overs of the game) led them to an eight-run defeat to Bangladesh in the second T20 International today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The defeat consigned Pakistan to their first-ever T20 series defeat to Bangladesh. Earlier, they lost the first game by seven wickets.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salman Agha remarked on the missed opportunities during the match, particularly in the bowling department during the powerplay. "The way we started bowling in the powerplay, we could have gotten like 10 fewer runs, but that's the way cricket goes," Salman said after the match. He also emphasized the need for improvement in the batting department, especially during the powerplay, as they failed to capitalize on their control over Bangladesh's innings, despite restricting them to 133 all out in 20 overs.
Chasing a victory target of 134, Pakistan were dismissed for 125 in 19.2 overs. The top six batters of Pakistan were out for single-digits before Faheem Ashraf guided the lower order to take the match to the last over, contributing a valiant 51 off 32 balls. Salman Agha praised the efforts of his bowlers, Salman Mirza and Daniyal, for their performances in both games, acknowledging their potential as future stars.
Salman Agha further applauded Faheem Ashraf's innings, highlighting his crucial role in almost turning the game in Pakistan's favor. Despite the loss, Salman expressed pride in the team's fighting spirit and character, stating that they never gave up despite the challenging situation. "We don't want to give up no matter what situation we are in. We always think we can win the game. And that belief is in our team now, and the way we played after, like, 15-5, I think, is outstanding," he said.
The Pakistan captain believes that the match, despite the outcome, was thrilling and worth watching, and he remains optimistic about the team's future performances.
