Salahuddin: BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today urged all political parties not to deviate from the constitutional process and emphasized the need to build a solid foundation so that no one can later question the interim government and the July National Charter. "We must not, by any means, go outside the legal or constitutional process. We have to guide the nation through a proper and systematic course," he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin made the remarks while speaking at a discussion marking the fourth founding anniversary of the Gono Odhikar Parishad at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the city's Kakrail area. Emphasizing the constitutional basis of the current state structure, he stated that revolutionary orders suggested in line with the will of the people expressed in the July Uprising were emotional statements. He reminded that the interim government was formed constitutionally and that the state is being operated legally and constitutionally.
Calling for a pragmatic approach, the BNP leader stressed the importance of speaking based on reality, avoiding proposals that could lead to future questioning of their initiatives or orders. He insisted on establishing a foundation now to prevent any legal challenges in the future.
In his speech, Salahuddin also highlighted the history of the Gono Odhikar Parishad's struggle and movement. He discussed the July National Charter, noting that most political parties have signed it, but the NCP and a few others have specific demands preventing them from doing so. Discussions are ongoing to resolve these issues and allow them to sign.
Urging that fascism must never be allowed to return to Bangladesh, Salahuddin emphasized the importance of maintaining unity that led to the democratic movement's victory against fascism. He warned that compromising this unity could pave the way for the return of fascism.
The discussion was presided over by Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, with General Secretary Md Rashed Khan and leaders and activists from various party units attending. Vice-President Faruk Hasan moderated the event, and several leaders from different political parties also spoke.
