Sakhawat seeks Swiss support in textile, jute, shipping sectors

Textiles and Jute and Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain today sought Switzerland’s support in the country’s textile and jute and shipping sectors.

‘The interim government is eager to work with the Swiss government maintaining friendly relations,’ he said while Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli paid a courtesy call on him at the latter’s ministry office at Bangladesh secretariat here.

The Adviser urged the Swiss government to come up with his country’s investment in the Bangladesh’s closed state-owned textile and jute mills. ‘All these investments in jute and textiles along with machinery sectors are profitable,’ he mentioned.

In this connection, he sought Swiss cooperation for modern management in ports activities along with modernization of container handling in different ports of the country under the ministry of Shipping.

The adviser directed the secretary concerned to further communicate with foreign investors aimed at attracting more investment to potential se
ctors under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and Shipping.

Appreciating the potential young society in Bangladesh, the Swiss Ambassador said Bangladesh is progressing in various indicators including education and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). To this end, he mentioned that Bangladesh has an enlightened potential young society.

During the meeting, he informed the adviser that Switzerland is eager to build a friendly, trustworthy and collaborative relationship with Bangladesh and wants to work as a development partner of Bangladesh.

Among others, Alberto Giovanetti, Councilor of Switzerland Embassy, Secretary of Textiles and Jute Abdur Rauf and Acting Secretary of Shipping Sanjay Kumar Banik were present during the meeting, among others.
