Sakhawat Inaugurates Nagarbari River Port, Promises Economic Boost

Bera: Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain inaugurated the Nagarbari port on the bank of the Jamuna River at Bera upazila today. Addressing a function on the occasion, he announced that the newly launched Nagarbari Port will enhance the country’s economy through goods handling, job creation, and revenue generation.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sakhawat Hussain stated that the port will be managed by a private organization, which will also provide all necessary port management equipment. He also mentioned the deployment of four dredgers to ensure smooth river navigation and maintain the operational status of the river route.



The inaugural ceremony was chaired by BIWTA chairman Commodore Arif Ahmed Mustafa, with Additional Secretary of the Shipping Ministry Delwora Begum among the attendees. The port is equipped with a 360-meter long concrete jetty, terminal, warehouses, open sheds, and other modern infrastructure, promising to make cargo unloading up to 10 times faster, according to officials.



Local residents are hopeful that the port will transform the region’s socio-economic landscape, boosting trade and commerce across the northwestern and southern districts. Md Khairuzzaman, Port Officer of the Nagarbari-Kazirhat-Noradah river ports, emphasized that the Nagarbari River Port will play a crucial role in advancing the country’s economy and improving connectivity.
