Baku:Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain emphasized the importance of fostering patriotism among citizens and urged collective efforts for the progress of Bangladesh. Speaking at the HAEMATOCON 2026 inauguration, organized by the Haematology Society of Bangladesh at Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Hall, he highlighted the need for unity in nation-building.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister announced plans to improve the country's health infrastructure by installing 17 radiotherapy machines, with six allocated for Dhaka and 11 for other regions, enhancing cancer treatment capabilities.

Reflecting on his past as a freedom fighter, Sakhawat shared the challenges he faced during the Liberation War and his current commitment to reform the health ministry, which was previously marred by corruption. He noted the inflated costs of imported radiotherapy machines as an example of the issues he aims to address.

Sakhawat also recalled the significant changes brought by Bangladesh's independence, which opened up opportunities for Bangladeshis to serve in prominent roles, unlike during the pre-independence era under Pakistani rule. He expressed the importance of fulfilling one's responsibilities to the nation and improving the country's future.

The event was chaired by Haematology Society of Bangladesh President Professor Amin Lutful Kabir and saw participation from both domestic and international doctors and researchers.
