Alikadam:A new safe drinking water supply project has been launched in 32 remote hill villages, including Thingku Para in Alikadam upazila, to address a longstanding water crisis in the area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Brigadier General Md. Shamsul Alam, ndc, psc, commander of the 34 Engineer Construction Brigade, inaugurated the project at Thingku Para on Thursday. The project, implemented by the Bangladesh Army's 17 Engineer Construction Battalion, channels water from a hill stream through a 9.5-kilometre pipeline, with eight outlets serving the 32 villages.
The initiative aims to ensure access to safe drinking water, alleviate the challenges of water collection, and enhance public health in these remote communities. Biswa Tripura, the karbari (traditional village head) of Thingku Para, noted that villagers have historically struggled to collect water from streams, especially during the dry season. He remarked that the introduction of piped drinking water will significantly ease the hardship of accessing safe water.
