Sacrificial animals being sold at 48 cattle markets in Gaibandha

Sacrificial animals are being sold at 48 cattle markets in all seven upazilas of the district ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Masudur Rahman said as many as 48 hatats have already been set up in the district where ox, cow, goat and sheep are being sold for few days last on occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

Of them, some 26 are regular haats (two days in a week), 13 temporary haats and eight are online haats, he also said.

A total of 1, 38, 278 cattle have been kept ready for sale in these haats while the demand of the cattle in the district is 1, 16, 777 this year, he added.

To make the selling and purchasing of sacrificial animals in those haats without hassle, the district and police administration including the scheduled banks have extended their hands of cooperation, he further added.

District police have set up control room at all the regular haats to avoid any untoward incidents, the bank officials are helping the sellers and the businessmen to detect fake currencies, he cited.

District and upazila administrations are supervising the haats regularly so that the haat izaradars could not collect excessive toll from the buyers and sellers, he mentioned.

On behalf of his department, the veterinary surgeons are checking the cattle whether the cattle is healthy or disease free, he added.

Md. Ayen Uddin, an Ijaradar of a haat said a sacrificial animal (ox) is being sold ranging Taka between 70,000 and 6,ooooo (six lakh) this year.

Of the animals, the demand of medium size animals is very high, he also said.

Talking to BSS, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gaibandha Oliur Rahman said they are monitoring the situation of all the cattle haats of the district closely.

If any awkward situation creates there, the district administration and district police would take prompt action to bring the situation under control, the DC concluded.
