Khulna: Adviser to the ministries of Fisheries and Livestock, Farida Akhter, stated today that the sacrifice of Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughdo, Abu Sayeed, Anas, and others played a pivotal role in creating a new Bangladesh. "The generation that was once a source of concern has now created a new Bangladesh. Young individuals like Shaheed Mir Mughdo have proven with their lives that they are ready to make any sacrifice for their country. Our responsibility is to preserve the memories of these martyrs," she said during a discussion at Liakat Ali auditorium following the inauguration of 'Shaheed Mir Mughdo Toron' at the main gate of Khulna University (KU).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farida Akhter also accused Sheikh Hasina of responsibility for the killings of many innocent people during the July-August uprising, emphasizing that the perpetrators must face justice. She assured that the interim government is working towards initiating legal proceedings against those responsible before the next election. Akhter praised the KU campus for its freedom from political contamination and commended Mughdo's bravery, noting, "I am wondered how Mughdo thought at that moment, risking his life to provide water to the protesting people."
She further remarked, "If we make a mistake, no one will forgive this government. Therefore, in response to the demands of students and people, Sheikh Hasina will be tried in the land of Bangladesh."
The event was presided over by Vice-Chancellor of KU, Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim. Special guests included Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, Vice-Chancellor of Jessore University of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Md. Nazmul Ahsan, Vice-Chancellor of Khulna Agricultural University; Prof. Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, Pro-VC of KU; Prof. Dr. Md. Nurunnabi, Treasurer of KU; and Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, CEO of the July Shaheed Memorial Foundation and brother of martyred Mughdo.
Other speakers included Mir Mostafizur Rahman, father of martyred Mughdo, Md. Rakibul Haque, Syed Kashem Ali, and representatives of the '21 batch of students. Prof. Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat, Director of Student Affairs and Secretary of the event organizing committee, delivered the welcome speech, while Assistant Director of Student Affairs, Irin Azhar Urmi, hosted the event.
The ceremony began with the national anthem and a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs of the July-August uprising, attended by Khulna University's faculty, students, officials, staff representatives from civil society, journalists, professionals, and the mother of martyred Mughdo.
