Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam has emphasized the enduring significance of the sacrifices made by madrasah students in the fight against fascism. He highlighted that these students played a pivotal role in the July mass uprising, with many losing their lives for the cause.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahfuj Alam made these remarks during a rally commemorating 'Madrasah Resistance Day' at Jamia Mahmudia Madrasah in Jathrabari, Dhaka. The event was organized by the Technical and Madrasah Education Division, and Mahfuj prayed for the eternal peace of the martyred students' souls.
During his address, Mahfuj expressed his belief that unity among madrasah students, the religious community, and religious people would lead Bangladesh towards progress and the establishment of rights for all. He also pointed out the oppression faced by the Alem community over the past 15 years under the fascist Awami League government, describing the state's policy as one of hatred towards madrasah students and alemes.
Referring to the police action at a rally on May 5, 2013, at Shapla Chattar, Mahfuj noted that 60 to 70 or more individuals were killed in indiscriminate firing that night, with many others injured. He urged the madrasah students to continue to speak out against any oppression they face.
