Dhaka: Planning Adviser Professor Wahid Uddin Mahmud today declared legendary singer Sabina Yasmin as not only a national treasure but also an invaluable asset to the country. He made this statement at a ceremony organized to honor the singer for her contributions to Bangla music.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki delivered the welcome speech at the ceremony. The gathering was graced by the presence of Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Mofidur Rahman, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and BNP Standing Committee Member Salah Uddin Ahmed, among others.
During the ceremony, Prof. Wahid Uddin Mahmud honored Sabina Yasmin on behalf of the state with an uttorio, a crest, and a memento. Reflecting on her illustrious career, he remarked that Sabina Yasmin's songs have been a significant part of the golden era of Bangla cinema, music, and literature. He shared personal anecdotes from his days as a university student and a young faculty member, emphasizing the connection he and many others felt with her music.
Prof. Wahid further praised Sabina Yasmin's unparalleled contributions, acknowledging that there is hardly any honor or award in Bangladesh that she has not received since the country's independence. He added that while the state reception may not add to her long list of accolades, it remains a matter of great pride for the nation to celebrate her achievements.
