Rajshahi: Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) authority held a freshers’ orientation for the newly-admitted first-year (honours) students under the 2024-2025 academic session amid festivity and fanfare today. The orientation for the students of different departments was held at the central auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor SM Abdur Razzaque welcomed the students with flower sticks, wishing them every success at the campus. A documentary showcasing the education, research, and co-curricular activities of RUET was screened during the initial stage of the orientation.
With Students Welfare Director Prof Rabiul Islam Sarker presiding over the ceremony, the event was also addressed by Applied Science and Humanity Dean Prof Abdul Kader Zilani, Electrical and Computer Science Faculty Dean Prof Bashir Ahmed, and Mechanical Engineering Faculty Dean Prof Nurul Islam. Registrar Arif Ahmed Chowdhury provided insights into the academic ordinance, disciplinary rules, and various educational and research activities.
In his address to the students, the VC inspired them to enjoy their student life with care, emphasizing that the purpose of education is to acquire knowledge from reality and use it for the benefit of mankind. He urged the students to stay on the right track, highlighting the importance of acquiring knowledge properly. Prof Razzaque also reminded them of their role in building a new Bangladesh by acquiring modern and practical knowledge. This year, students were admitted to 14 departments under different faculties of the university.
