Rajshahi: The 16th founding anniversary of the Department of Ceramic and Metallurgical Engineering (CME) at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) was celebrated. Today, the day's events were inaugurated by the Head of the CME Department, Professor Dr. Badiul Islam, by cutting a cake in front of the department with teachers, students, and others concerned.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Mahmud, Professor in the CME Department and Deputy Director of the Directorate of Students' Welfare; Assistant Professor Mintu Ali; Assistant Professor Md. Zahidul Haque; along with other faculty members, students, officers, and staff of the department were present at the occasion. A rally was also organized to mark the founding anniversary, which started in front of the department and paraded around the campus.
Professor Dr. Md. Badiul Islam, Head of the CME Department, emphasized the past struggles due to a shortage of skilled engineers in the ceramic and metallurgy industry, which hindered the country's industrial progress. He acknowledged the department's role in producing skilled engineers who are significantly contributing to the country's economy since its establishment.
He expressed gratitude to the teachers, students, alumni, and various institutions and companies for their support throughout the department's journey. The department currently boasts a team of 19 teachers, including 3 professors, 10 laboratories equipped with modern instruments, and air-conditioned classrooms with the latest technology.
In its 16 years, the department has produced hundreds of engineers contributing nationally and globally. With modernization, the demand for the ceramic industry is on the rise, extending from household utensils to construction, electronics, medical science, and aerospace. The Department of Ceramic and Metallurgical Engineering was established at RUET on April 23, 2010, to produce skilled ceramic engineers to meet this growing demand.
