Rangpur: Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) have arrested 1,626 people in various cases and recovered huge drugs and stolen goods in different operations conducted to maintain law and order in the last three months. RpMP Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud disclosed the information at a meet the press conference organised at the conference hall of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police headquarters in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the RpMP Chief discussed the law and order situation in Rangpur city, traffic management, public safety, and increasing mutual cooperation and trust between police and local citizens and journalists at the beginning of the meet. Over the past three months, the police have apprehended 316 warranted accused, 282 alleged drug dealers, 53 members of the air conditioner copper theft rings, 32 accused in the women and child abuse cases, five accused in murder cases, 12 members of banned organizations, and 926 more individuals from the metropolis.
In these operations, authorities recovered 10 bags of copper wire, 3,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, 50 grams of heroin, 20-kg of marijuana, a huge amount of phensedyl syrup, Tapentadol tablets, morphine injections, and various types of drugs. The RpMP Chief emphasized that police operations to stop online and offline gambling are ongoing, with necessary measures being taken as soon as information is received.
Furthermore, the RpMP's traffic division is actively working to address traffic congestion in the city. In this regard, the Commissioner sought the cooperation of city residents and media workers. He highlighted the shared goal of the police and journalists in serving the nation, improving society, and building a prosperous Bangladesh with peace and tranquility.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of the coordinated role of the police and the mass media in further improving the law and order situation in the metropolis and achieving the current government's zero-tolerance stance against drugs. He noted that the mutual trust between police and the public has been rebuilt, with people assisting the police in curbing crimes, and praised the local media's role in the fight against drugs.
Deputy Commissioners of Police of RpMP Sanatan Chakraborty, Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Maruf Ahmed, and other senior police officials were present at the programme.
