Roundtable on Developing Postgraduate Residency Program Held at BMU

Dhaka: A roundtable discussion aimed at improving the postgraduate residency program in Bangladesh was held at Shaheed Dr Milton Hall of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) here today. Chaired by BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam, the event was graced by Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman as the chief guest.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Sayeedur Rahman emphasized that BMU must lead in enhancing the healthcare system to produce world-class specialist physicians for Bangladesh. Highlighting the necessity of adapting to rapid technological changes and innovations, he stressed that the residency program should be modernized accordingly.



Prof Shahinul Alam stated that the institution has already initiated numerous projects in healthcare services, education, and research. He noted that faculty development and digitalization efforts are in progress to transform BMU into an AI-based smart hospital along with training activities.



During the roundtable, experts presented significant papers addressing the management, assessment, admission process, curriculum, monitoring and future challenges of the residency program. The meeting was attended by distinguished figures such as Khulna Medical University (KMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Ruhul Amin, BMU Director (IT) Prof Dr AKM Akhtaruzzaman, and several other notable academicians.



Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram Medical University Prof Dr Omar Faruq Yusuf, BMU Pro-VC (Research and Development) Prof Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Hawlader, and other eminent medical education experts shared their insights at the event. BMU Pro-VC (Admin) Prof Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad delivered the welcome address, while its Registrar Prof Dr Md Nazrul Islam conducted the program. Deans, department heads, faculty members, and various panel experts were also present at the discussion.
