Dhaka: Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md. Nurul Islam has emphasized the crucial role that personal assistants to Members of Parliament (MPs) play in reinforcing democracy at the grassroots level. He described these aides as key contributors to making the parliamentary system more vibrant and effective during an orientation programme at the 3D Hall of the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Whip highlighted the significance of democratic values and parliamentary effectiveness. He noted that the attendance of participants at the orientation demonstrates their eagerness to understand rules and regulations and their dedication to democracy. “Your presence this morning at the orientation programme proves that you want to learn laws and procedures. You believe in democracy, and democracy is being institutionalised through your efforts,” he stated.

He further added that the continuation of democratic practices and the vibrancy and effectiveness of parliament are the ultimate goals of these efforts. The Chief Whip also stressed the importance of the role of personal assistants in the performance of MPs, noting their trusted advisory capacity. “A Member of Parliament places great trust in his personal assistant and often follows his advice. Your responsibility is significant in guiding MPs on the right path,” he remarked.

Md. Nurul Islam also spoke about the national budget, describing it as more than just a set of figures but a reflection of the people’s hopes and aspirations. He emphasized the need for equitable distribution of public resources for development, highlighting that all citizens contribute to the state through taxes. “You should study budget analysis and understand all relevant information so that you can help explain it to MPs accordingly,” he advised.

The event, chaired by the Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, also featured a welcome address by Dr. Khondaker Golam Moazzem, National Adviser of the European Union.
