Teknaf:The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained three Rohingya nationals and confiscated a significant cache of weapons and explosives in Teknaf upazila. The seized items include two G-3 rifles, two locally manufactured single-barrel guns, 42 rounds of ammunition, and four kilograms of explosives.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, additional items such as three teasers, six walkie-talkie sets, and a magazine were also found. An easy-bike, purportedly used for transporting these materials, was seized by the BGB.
The operation was conducted based on intelligence indicating that an arms consignment was being moved through Leda Bazar in Hnila union, intended for a criminal group in a Rohingya camp. Teknaf Battalion's operational team intercepted a suspicious easy-bike around 10:30 am, using a metal detector to identify metal objects concealed in sacks.
The vehicle and its occupants were taken to Leda Border Outpost (BOP), where a search revealed the arms and explosives hidden inside sacks of potatoes. The detainees were identified as Mohammad Usman Belal, Mohammad Muslim, and Mohammad Ansar Ali, all residents of Rohingya camps.
Teknaf Battalion Commander Lt Col Mohammad Hanifur Rahman Bhuiyan emphasized the BGB's commitment to combating arms and explosives smuggling. He noted that ongoing intelligence surveillance, regular patrols, and coordinated operations with other law enforcement agencies are crucial to preventing illegal arms trafficking and ensuring public safety.
