Bogra: Pacer Robiul Haque starred with a five-wicket haul on Day 1 of the 27th National Cricket League (NCL) fourth round game between Barishal and Rangpur at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra today. The pacer claimed 5-25 as Rangpur wrapped up Barishal for just 196 runs in the first innings. However, despite his effort, Rangpur failed to establish its full dominance as they were reduced to 43-2 at stumps.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fazle Mahmud battled alone for Barishal, hitting 80 off 133 deliveries, an innings that included 13 boundaries. Salman Emon provided some support with a knock of 27 runs. Lower-order batsman Shamsul Islam Anik contributed 23 runs, pushing the team's total closer to the 200-run mark.
Fast bowler Mukidul Islam Mugdho complemented Robiul's performance by taking 3-46, while Nobin Islam and Rishad Hossain chipped in with one wicket each.
In their reply, Rangpur faced an early setback as they lost their openers, Abdullah Al Mamun (12) and Jahid Javed (2), in quick succession, leaving them at 25-2. However, Nobin Islam, who was unbeaten on 21, and Naeem Islam, on 6, managed to see off the day without any further damage.
