Dhaka: Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today emphasized the importance of building an inclusive and discrimination-free Bangladesh as the most significant way to honor the martyrs of the July Uprising. She made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the country’s first ‘July Martyrs’ Monument, a project implemented by the Housing and Public Works Ministry, according to a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana highlighted that justice, proper recognition, and responsible governance are crucial to paying true tribute to the martyrs. She underscored the need to honor the families of the martyrs, finalize the list of the injured, and ensure compensation. Referring to the sacrifices made during the anti-autocracy student-led and Mass Uprising, Rizwana noted that their courage laid the foundation for today’s independent and democratic Bangladesh.
Rizwana remarked that the July Uprising teaches the importance of fearless presence in establishing democracy. She stated that the newly inaugurated memorial serves as both a remembrance of the past and a reminder of the responsibility toward the future, urging collective efforts to build a just and inclusive Bangladesh.
The event was attended by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Prof Dr. Asif Nazrul, Industries and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Public Administration Ministry’s Senior Secretary Dr. Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Housing and Public Works Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, and Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah. The advisors laid wreaths at the monument, paid homage to the martyrs, and met with the victims’ family members to inquire about their well-being and express sympathy.
In a gesture of remembrance, Rizwana Hasan also planted a sapling in memory of the martyrs.
