Dhaka:BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi criticized Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for prioritizing party interests over national interests throughout its history.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi stated that Jamaat-e-Islami has consistently neglected national interests since 1971, continuing this trend in both 1986 and 2024. He contrasted this with the BNP's focus on state and public interests.

Rizvi made these remarks at an event organized by 'Komal-Kuri' at Dhaka University's TSC auditorium. He stressed that when democracy was undermined by what he termed as Sheikh Hasina's fascism, the BNP made significant sacrifices to restore it.

He expressed satisfaction with the participation of 7,662 students in an essay competition about Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, indicating the youth's interest in his life and works. Rizvi emphasized the importance of such events for the intellectual development of the youth and stated that student politics should extend beyond rallies and slogans.

Rizvi criticized the call for a remittance shutdown by expatriates as anti-national, highlighting the importance of expatriate remittance to the national economy. He argued that the public would not support any action that hinders the country’s development.

Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, who inaugurated the event, encouraged the continuation of such activities and praised the participating students. He acknowledged Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's contributions to the nation's identity and lamented the discontinuation of intellectual practices from his era.

Chhatra Dal Organizing Secretary Amanullah Aman presided over the event, with Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib also in attendance.
