Dhaka:Acting Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Prime Minister's Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused imperialist forces of carrying out subtle and planned cultural aggression in Bangladesh. He spoke at a seminar organized by Sammilita Sanskritik Oikya on 'The Crisis of Bangladesh's Culture An Exploration of Its Nature,' held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi claimed that these forces are attempting to alter the fundamental form of the language through conspiracy. He noted that despite such conspiracies, the people of Bangladesh possess an inherent ability to resist any form of aggression. Rizvi emphasized that new words are being intentionally introduced to replace long-practiced words, which he sees as part of imperialist activities.

Rizvi highlighted the historical context, stating that the so-called 'Bengal Renaissance' of the 19th century was limited and primarily focused on Hindu revivalism, neglecting the needs of the predominantly Muslim peasant society at the time. He described the development of 'Bangladeshi nationalism' through historical events and struggles, including those of 1947 and 1971.

Rizvi also criticized certain intellectuals for supporting fascism during historical crises, drawing parallels to Bangladesh's own experiences. He praised patriotic intellectuals for standing by the people and promoting truth, and he supported initiatives that encourage the practice of national culture and the preservation of the country's identity.

The seminar featured National Professor Dr. Mahbub Ullah as the main discussant, with a keynote presentation by Bangla Academy Award-winning researcher Dr. Mustafa Majid, and was chaired by Sammilita Sanskritik Oikya President and freedom fighter M A Malek. Several BNP leaders and cultural figures participated as special guests, along with academics, writers, researchers, and journalists.
