Dhaka:Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that the now-banned Awami League and an unidentified "covert group" are actively spreading misinformation against the BNP. Rizvi made these remarks during a dengue prevention campaign organized by Dhaka South City Corporation in the Shantinagar area of the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi claimed that the behaviors and statements of these groups mirror those of past defeated forces, continuing a long-standing pattern of misinformation against the BNP. He alleged that the Awami League had historically engaged in these activities, with the recent addition of a "secretive group" supporting their efforts. Rizvi suggested evidence of a relationship between the groups and noted a previous assertion of forgiveness towards the Awami League.

Rizvi further mentioned past propaganda portraying the BNP as a militant political entity, potentially threatening the safety of religious minorities if the party gained power. He stated that the government, under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, had thwarted conspiracies through vigilance.

The BNP leader highlighted the party's engagement with Durga Puja mandap committees to ensure security during the festival, which was attended by many from a neighboring country who praised the peaceful environment. Rizvi emphasized the BNP's commitment to transparency and fulfilling election promises since the current government took office.

Rizvi also discussed the distribution of Family Cards and Farmers' Cards, initiatives believed by economists to potentially reduce poverty by five percentage points this year. He regarded these steps as significant achievements for the government.

Addressing the dengue prevention campaign, Rizvi noted the resumption of leaflet distribution after a brief pause, aiming to increase public awareness and reduce dengue infection risks. The event was attended by BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Organising Secretary Kazi Sayedul Alam Babul, and Secretary for Volunteer Affairs Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu.
