River Police Enhance Security on Waterways for Eid-ul-Azha:

Dhaka: River Police intensify security measures on waterways ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to ensure safe transportation of passengers and sacrificial animals. Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) of River Police, Md Rezaul Karim, stated that the force is working diligently to maintain security and prevent defective vessels from operating on rivers.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IGP made these remarks during a views-exchange meeting on “Security and Water Traffic Management for Transportation of Passengers, Goods, and Sacrificial Animals on Waterways ahead of Eid-ul-Azha-2026” at the River Police Headquarters in Dhaka. He emphasized the importance of preventing overloading, checking weather forecasts, enhancing surveillance, and ensuring that vessels adhere to authorized points for passenger pick-up and drop-off.

The IGP urged stakeholders to avoid carrying excess passengers and ensure timely departure of launches for smooth Eid journeys. He also sought cooperation in maintaining safe waterways and extended advance Eid greetings. The meeting included discussions with government and private organization representatives, as well as police superintendents from various River Police regions.

Topics covered in the meeting included security at river terminals, safe travel for homebound passengers, transportation of goods and sacrificial animals, law and order, movement of watercraft, extortion prevention, and security at cattle markets on riverbanks. The River Police is actively working to implement government initiatives for safe and hassle-free travel during Eid-ul-Azha.

The meeting was attended by representatives from government and private organizations linked to waterways, additional DIGs, officials from Dhaka Range Office, River Police Headquarters, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Fire Service and Civil Defence, and police superintendents from all River Police regions, both in person and virtually.
