Jessore: District authorities have successfully cleared 43 decimal of land from illegal grabbers along the Bhairab River in the Doratana area of the district town. District Administration and the Water Development Board (WDB) conducted a joint operation on Thursday, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was led by Nusrat Yasmin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Jashore Sadar Upazila, with the support of WDB Executive Engineer Palash Kumar Banerjee and local police forces. During the five-hour operation, about 40 illegal shops and structures built on the river land were dismantled. After removing the structures, the recovered area was marked with boundary pillars and fenced off with barbed wire to prevent future encroachments.

WDB Executive Engineer Palash Kumar Banerjee stated that despite multiple notifications, the river encroachers had refused to vacate their shops. Announcements were made over loudspeakers the day before the operation, but shop owners ignored these warnings.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nusrat Yasmin confirmed the successful recovery of 43 decimal of river land. She emphasized that the administration would respond promptly with further eviction drives if any attempts to reoccupy the recovered land occur.
