Hobart: Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was named Hobart Hurricanes Big Bash League (BBL) player of the year today after a standout debut season in the tournament. Rishad played an important role to help Hobart Hurricanes’ strong finish in BBL 15 in what was his maiden season in the tournament.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rishad was drafted to play for Hobart Hurricanes in BBL 14 too but was unable to participate due to his BPL commitment at home. However, he made up for his previous absence by taking 15 wickets in the tournament and providing control that Hobart Hurricanes needed.
The Bangladesh leg-spinner edged out strong competition from teammates Nikhil Chaudhary, Nathan Ellis, and Chris Jordan to lift the title. Rishad led all Hurricanes players in the wicket-taking column and was often utilized early in the innings, straight out of the Powerplay, playing a key role for the team. He achieved his best figures of 3-26 against the Adelaide Strikers.
Rishad is currently playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and will prepare for Bangladesh national team’s home series against New Zealand following the PSL.
