Jashore: Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar announced today that the government is set to launch Open Market Sale (OMS) and food-friendly programs next month, following the successful procurement of paddy and rice to meet national demands. These initiatives aim to stabilize rice prices across the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Majumdar made these remarks as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting held at the Circuit House in Jashore. He expressed confidence that these programs would help control rice prices. Additionally, Majumdar revealed that market manipulation by syndicates in Naogaon and Kushtia has been dismantled to ensure fair pricing.
The adviser highlighted that approximately 5.3 million families are expected to benefit from the OMS and food-friendly initiatives, with positive effects anticipated to be visible soon. The meeting, which focused on food grain procurement, stock, and pricing in the Khulna division, was chaired by Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Firoz Sarkar. Other notable attendees included Food Secretary Md. Masudul Hasan, Khulna Divisional Food Officer Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Jashore Deputy Commissioner Md. Azaharul Islam, along with officials from 10 districts in the division.
