Rice being distributed under VGF Program in Gaibandha

Rice is being distributed to the distressed and ultra poor of the district as the gift of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

District relief and rehabilitation office source said the rice would be distributed to a total of 3,51,533 VGF card holders of all seven upazilas including four pourashavas in the district before Eid-ul-Azha.

Of the total, 26,641 cards were allocated for Fulchhari Upazila, 71,069 for Sundarganj Upazila, 40,389 for Shaghata Upazila, 66,754 for Gobindaganj Upazila, 41,008 for Sadullapur Upazila, 57,794 for Sadar Upazila and 34,435 for Palashbari Upazila of the district.

Apart from it, 13,863 cards were allocated for four Pourashavas of the district. Of them, some 4621 cards were allocated for Gaibandha and Gobindaganj Pourashava each, 3081cards for Sundarganj Pourashava and 1540 in Palashbari Pourashava sources said.

Each of the beneficiaries would get 10 KGs of rice so that they could celebrate the forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals for the Muslims, without food crisis, said assistant commissioner and acting district relief and rehabilitation officer Md. Jewel Miah.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Oliur Rahman told the BSS that instructions were given to the upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) along with project implementation officers (PIOs) to distribute the rice to the beneficiaries smoothly within very short time.

Sadar UNO M. Abdur Shariful Alam said as per the directives of the DC necessary measures were taken to distribute the VGF rice to the beneficiaries of the upazila before Eid festival.
