Khulna: The Khulna city and district units of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) observed the historic Revolution and Solidarity Day with a discussion meeting and a colorful rally at Shibbari intersection. The event, held on Friday afternoon, was presided over by BNP City President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona. Former lawmaker and BNP candidate for Khulna-5 constituency, Ali Asgar Lobi, addressed the gathering as the chief guest.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event saw participation from notable BNP figures including district BNP convener Moniruzzaman Montu, city BNP general secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, district BNP joint convener Advocate Momrezul Islam, former student leader Ziaur Rahman Papul, city BNP organizing secretary Sheikh Sadi, Masud Parvez Babu, and Chowdhury Hasanur Rashid Miraj. Leaders from city, thana, upazila, and ward units of BNP and its front organizations were also present.

Speakers at the event remarked on the significance of November 7, describing it as a pivotal day in the nation’s history. They emphasized that the uprising of soldiers and civilians in 1975 ended political instability, facilitating the restoration of multi-party democracy, freedom of speech and press, and the rule of law. The speakers lauded Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for his patriotic leadership and his role in promoting nationalist ideology and guiding the nation toward progress.

Despite changes in the political landscape, the speakers noted that a truly democratic government has not been established yet, underscoring the necessity of free, fair, and inclusive elections. They acknowledged some political shifts after August 5, 2024, but highlighted that promises of justice, accountability, and good governance remain unfulfilled.

Concerns were raised over ongoing extrajudicial killings and legal rights deprivations in parts of the country, with speakers alleging that conspiracies to undermine national sovereignty persist. They urged the public to uphold the spirit of November 7, 1975, to institutionalize multi-party democracy, eradicate corruption and misrule, and collectively work toward a just society.

Concluding the event, a vibrant rally commenced from Zia hall square and concluded at Royal Chattar, covering KDA Avenue. In parallel, Khulna-2 BNP nominee Nazrul Islam Manju conducted a separate program at Tetultala intersection, attended by leaders and activists from the party’s front and associate bodies.
