Jashore: The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection has imposed a fine of Taka one lakh on Panchforan Hotel and Restaurant, located in the district town, for maintaining stale food and operating in an unhygienic environment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a mobile team led by Md. Selimuzzaman, Assistant Director of the department's Jashore District Office, conducted an inspection at the restaurant on MK Road around noon on Wednesday. During the inspection, officials discovered stale chicken grill wrapped in paper and stored in the refrigerator. Additionally, borhani and sauce prepared on the premises were found without any labels indicating their production or expiry dates.
Assistant Director Selimuzzaman stated that producing and storing food in an unhealthy environment, selling such food to consumers, and keeping expired items are punishable offenses under Section 43 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. Consequently, the restaurant was fined Taka one lakh, which was collected on the spot.
The operation was conducted with the participation of the Upazila Sanitary Inspector, members of the district police, and representatives from the Jashore district branch of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB).
