Dhaka: Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud today announced that the election to the reserved women's seats of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) will be held soon. "Election to the reserved women's seats will be held very soon. We are planning to conduct the polls during Ramadan," he told BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Election Commission is also preparing to hold by-elections for the Sherpur-3 and Bogura-6 constituencies at the earliest possible time. "However, the by-elections will not take place during Ramadan. Insha Allah, those will be held after Eid," he added.
On Monday, the Election Commission published a gazette notification declaring the Bogura-6 parliamentary seat vacant as Tarique Rahman submitted a written notification to the Commission stating his decision to retain the Dhaka-17 seat, thereby vacating the Bogura-6 constituency.
The election for the Sherpur-3 constituency was suspended and subsequently cancelled following the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.
