Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has asserted that the repatriation of the Rohingya people to their homeland is the only viable solution to address the ongoing crisis. His statement came during a meeting with Julie Bishop, the former acting Prime Minister of Australia and current UN Special Envoy on Myanmar, at a hotel on Monday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion between Yunus and Bishop covered a range of issues, including the Rohingya crisis, the situation in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, the severe funding shortfall impacting the Rohingya community, and key issues expected to be addressed in an upcoming conference. Professor Yunus expressed his hope that meaningful proposals would emerge from the conference, emphasizing the global importance of resolving the crisis.
Bishop highlighted the necessity of diversifying funding sources to support the Rohingya people, urging member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to increase their financial contributions.
