Reform Commission Chair Khanal pledges report ensuring policy departure

Chairman of the newly formed high-level commission for recommending the economic sector reform, Rameshwor Khanal, has said his team would prepare a report that identifies challenges of the national economy and suggests measures to ensure a policy departure.

Commission Chairman Khanal informed that the report would be prepared on the basis of the suggestions furnished by multiple sectors, thereby reflecting citizens’ needs.

He said it after receiving an appointment letter from Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel amidst a programme at Finance Ministry on Wednesday. Minister Paudel handed over the appointment letters to the officials of the high-level commission for recommending the economic sector reform on Wednesday.

Other officials in the Commission picked by the government are NPC Member Dr Prakash Kumar Shrestha, Chief of Central Department of Economics at TU, Prof Dr Ram Prasad Gyawali, economic expert Dr Bishwas Gauchan and senior researcher at Policy Research Institute, Dr
Kalpana Khanal.

The brains are given six months to prepare the report.

On the occasion, Finance Minister Paudel expressed belief that the Commission would furnish recommendations to the government for quality reform in the national economy after holding discussions with private sectors, experts and stakeholders.

The government would enforce the suggestions given by the Commission, he added.

The Commission was formed on Monday.
