Dhaka: Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Muhammad Tajul Islam today announced that a total of 457 individuals are currently facing charges in different cases being adjudicated in the two reconstituted tribunals. These tribunals were restructured after August 5, 2024.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, among the accused, 161 individuals have been arrested so far. This group includes 74 civilians, such as former ministers, lawmakers, and leaders from the Awami League. Additionally, 65 former policemen have been detained in connection with these cases.
Tajul Islam further explained that 34 miscellaneous cases have been filed with the special court. Of these, ICT-1 is handling 32 cases, while ICT-2 is addressing the remaining two cases. The prosecution has filed formal charges in 24 cases, and judgments have been pronounced in three of them. ICT-1 has concluded two cases, and ICT-2 has completed one. A total of 26 individuals have been convicted and sentenced, and one person has recently received a pardon.
