Panchagarh:A rare albino snake with a yellowish-white coloration has been rescued from Boda upazila, drawing significant attention due to its unusual appearance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the snake was rescued by Md Sahidul Islam, the founding president of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team in Bangladesh. The incident took place in Haldiyapukur village under Moydandighi union. The snake, identified as a checkered keelback (Fowlea piscator), is a non-venomous species typically characterized by brown or dark-colored bodies with distinctive markings. However, this particular snake's appearance is attributed to albinism, a rare genetic condition.

The sources explain that albinism is a congenital genetic condition that results in a significant reduction or absence of melanin, the pigment responsible for natural body coloration. This condition can also impact eye color. The rescued snake has several wounds and will be under observation to monitor its physical condition, particularly after shedding its skin.

Sahidul Islam mentioned that the snake's health will be assessed before it is released into a suitable natural habitat.
