Rape Attempt on Minor Boy in Cumilla; Suspect Apprehended

Cumilla: A shopkeeper in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla district has been accused of attempting to rape a 12-year-old boy inside his shop. The incident, which occurred on May 18, resulted in the arrest of the accused, Delwar Hossain, who has since been sent to jail by a court.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the victim, a sixth-grade student, visited the shop owned by Delwar Hossain to purchase chips. It is alleged that Delwar took the boy inside, closed the shutters, and attempted to rape him. The boy’s cries for help alerted locals, who intervened and rescued him, while the accused fled the scene.



The victim was later admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Cumilla Medical College Hospital on May 23. In response to the incident, the victim’s father filed a case at the Daudkandi Model Police Station. Authorities managed to arrest Delwar Hossain from a cattle market at Kalasona Bazar on the afternoon of the following Sunday.
