Dhaka: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the main accused in a case filed over the murder and subsequent burial of a Rural Electrification Board (REB) worker from Dhaka on Sunday night. The arrested was Mohabbat Ali, 32, of village South Ghanirampur Jhakuapata under Taraganj police station of Rangpur, said a press release issued by RAB-13’s Senior Assistant Director (Media) and Additional Superintendent of Police Biplab Kumar Goswami tonight.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the murder case was filed by the victim’s wife, Jannati Begum, 32. The victim, Manjurul Hossain, 45, was an electrician who worked under the REB contractor and took on electrical work in houses and offices whenever possible. He left home for work at 10 am on February 24, 2026, and did not return that day. The following day, a missing GD was filed with Taraganj police station.
The Taraganj police station recovered Hossain’s body while digging soil in Rampura Mouza under Taraganj police station on February 26, 2026, at 4:00 pm. Subsequently, the victim’s wife filed a murder case against unknown accused on February 27, 2026, at Taraganj police station.
Investigations revealed that due to a previous enmity between the victim and the arrested accused along with his accomplices, they killed Hossain with a sharp weapon and buried his body in a potato field. Acting on secret information, a joint team of RAB-13 from Rangpur and RAB-4 from Savar in Dhaka conducted a raid in the Bou Bazar area under Savar police station of Dhaka and arrested the main accused at 7:30 pm on Sunday.
The arrested accused has been handed over to Taraganj police station for further legal action.
