Rajshahi: Despite a valiant century from Ariful Haque, Rangpur Division were bowled out for 189 in their first innings on Day 1 of their fourth-round game against Rajshahi Division in the National Cricket League (NCL) today at Rajshahi Stadium. Ariful's unbeaten 103, crafted from 161 balls with 13 fours and two sixes, stood out amidst a lackluster batting performance by the team. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the next highest score came from Naeem Islam, who contributed 28 runs, while Abdul Gaffar Saqlain added 16. Pacer Sabbir Hossan spearheaded Rajshahi's bowling attack, achieving his career-best figures of 6-47. Rangpur, after being put in to bat first, quickly found themselves in trouble as they lost their top three batsmen for single-digit scores. Naeem and captain Akbar Ali attempted to stabilize the innings, but their resistance was short-lived as both fell victim to Sabbir. Ariful Haque then mounted a lone fightback, helping Rangpur cross the 150-run mark. By stumps, Rajshahi reached 39- 1, with Habibur Rahman on 12 and Sabbir Hossain on 17 at the crease, setting the stage for an intriguing second day of play.
