Dhaka: Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) in Rampal: has set a national record in power generation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the company generated 760 million units of electricity in April, accounting for more than 9 percent of the country’s total power generation. This information was shared by BIFPCL Deputy General Manager Anwarul Azim during a briefing this afternoon.
BIFPCL Managing Director Ramanath Pujari highlighted the significance of this milestone, stating, “Operating the plant at almost full capacity during peak demand reflects our robust design and the relentless efforts of the team. This achievement is a unique example of our rigorous management approach and successful cooperation between the two countries.”
The power plant is currently managed by a team of skilled Bangladeshi engineers who were trained under the supervision of experts from India’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). While NTPC provides advisory support, the day-to-day operations are handled by local engineers, marking a significant step forward in Bangladesh’s journey towards enhancing its technical capacity.
