Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman today announced that the trial in the high-profile Ramisa rape and murder case is scheduled to commence on June 1.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asaduzzaman emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency in the trial process, stating, “We submitted the charge sheet even before the completion of one week to maintain transparency in line with the standards of justice. The trial proceedings in the Ramisa murder case are set to begin on June 1 as part of our effort to ensure an exemplary trial process for those involved in such crimes.”
The minister made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at ‘The Grand Finale’ event organized by Medha O Monon Mancha at Shailkupa Government Degree College field. During his address, he acknowledged the existing delays in preparing paper books for death row convicts and highlighted the collaboration with the Supreme Court to expedite the judicial process. “I have already spoken to the Chief Justice, and I will take all necessary measures to expedite the punishment, trial, and overall judicial process of death row convicts,” he said.
Asaduzzaman urged the public to remain patient and assured them that cases of all death row convicts, including Magura’s Asiya case, would be addressed swiftly. Reflecting on his tenure as Attorney General, he mentioned prioritizing the trial proceedings of sensitive murder cases such as those of Major Sinha and Abrar Fahad and expressed hopes for prompt action by the Appellate Division.
The event was presided over by Medha O Monon Mancha President Masum Billah Turza and attended by notable figures including Prof Dr. AKM Matinur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University, Prabir Saha Bidyut, chairman of Rose Sweaters Limited, and Mahfuzur Rahman. During the program, crests and certificates were awarded to over 500 Shailkupa students who achieved GPA-5 in the SSC examinations in 2025 and 2026, alongside prizes for winners of various competitions held throughout the year.
