Rajshahi: Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu emphasized the crucial role Rajshahi College plays in propagating knowledge across the nation. Speaking as the chief guest at the 'Rajshahi College Alumnus and Meritorious Students Reception 2026,' the minister stressed that a nation or institution thrives by acknowledging its outstanding individuals.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Minu encouraged talented students to apply their skills globally and return to contribute to their homeland after achieving success. The event, vibrant with activities and jointly organized by Rajshahi College and the Rajshahi College HSC Alumni Association, took place at the college auditorium.
Presided over by Rajshahi College Principal Professor Dr. Md. Ibrahim Ali, the event featured speeches by Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, and Rajshahi Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Md. Ershad Ali Isha. Minister Minu highlighted the college's historical significance and noted Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's special interest in its development.
The minister announced plans for infrastructural improvements, including a new academic building and auditorium, along with the renovation and expansion of the Rani Hemanta Kumari Hindu Hostel to alleviate housing issues for female students. He also mentioned modernizing the college playground and providing financial support to the Alumni Association fund. These initiatives aim to inspire future students and foster stronger connections between alumni and current students.
During the ceremony, 342 meritorious students who gained admission to various prestigious institutions received recognition. Scholarships were awarded to ten students, and the cover of Quack magazine, published by the Rajshahi College Science Club, was unveiled.
Student representatives Fatema Siddika, Hasinul Islam Srijon, Tasnia Tithi, and Rabbi shared their experiences, while other speakers included Teachers' Council Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Rajshahi College HSC Alumni Association President Chowdhury Saidur Rahman Koel, and General Secretary Dr. Tahmina Shamim Tasu.
The gathering of past and present students celebrated the college's rich tradition and significant contributions to education. Following the formal program, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton planted tree saplings on the campus, witnessed by teachers and students.
