Khulna: The Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and Khulna Divisional Commissioner emphasized the importance of raising public awareness to prevent the outbreaks of dengue and COVID-19. In a discussion on “Preventive Measures for Dengue and COVID-19,” it was highlighted that extensive media coverage is crucial.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Khulna Divisional Commissioner’s Office and the Divisional Health Directorate organized the meeting, where the need for reactivating committees to combat coronavirus and preparing hospital wards in advance was stressed. The Commissioner pointed out that awareness is essential for preventing coronavirus, and government departments should be informed and instructed accordingly.
He urged everyone to wear masks outdoors and maintain cleanliness, including drain cleaning. Plans are underway to distribute precautionary leaflets at educational institutions, and district and upazila administrations will be informed about the measures. The discussion was chaired by Acting Divisional Director of Health Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman, with participation from various health and government officials.
Dr. Aparna Biswas provided an overview of dengue, while Dr. S.M. Shahriar presented insights on COVID-19. The meeting noted the increasing number of dengue cases in the Khulna Division in 2025, with 162 patients diagnosed by June 10 and two reported deaths. Key symptoms of dengue and preventive measures were discussed, including the use of mosquito nets and eliminating standing water.
The meeting also addressed symptoms of new COVID-19 variants and preventive measures such as avoiding public gatherings, maintaining distance, and wearing masks. Another meeting was held at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium to discuss actions for dengue control and COVID-19 prevention within KCC, presided over by KCC Administrator Md. Firoz Sarkar.
The Administrator emphasized the need for KCC to operate at full capacity for citizen protection, suggesting activation of ward-level committees and targeted spraying operations. Knowledge-sharing with Dhaka’s city corporations was also considered for effective measures. Regular mask-wearing, avoiding crowds, and thorough hand washing were deemed crucial to prevent coronavirus spread.
The meeting was attended by KCC’s Chief Executive Officer Laskar Tajul Islam, Secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, and other government and NGO representatives.
