Dhaka:Radiotherapy machines will be installed at district-level hospitals within the next two years to make cancer treatment services more accessible, announced Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Shakhawat Husain on Monday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister stated that the government is focused on expanding cancer treatment beyond divisional cities to reach people at the district level. The health sector is being reorganized to be more people-oriented and align with public expectations, with work progressing rapidly towards this goal.
The minister made these remarks at the inauguration of a Medical Physics program at BRAC University in Dhaka, where BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Prof Said Farhat Anwar chaired the event, and Prof Dr Golam Abu Zakeria delivered the keynote address.
Additionally, the minister commended the dedication of the country's physicians, describing them as a valuable asset who stand by the public during crises and work tirelessly for public welfare. He emphasized that doctors are committed to patient care and are willing to make sacrifices for the well-being of the people.
The minister also noted improvements in the health sector, including increased medicine supply, better hospital cleanliness, and improved quality of food provided to patients, which have contributed to greater patient satisfaction. Although Bangladesh is advancing in healthcare services, he acknowledged that there is still room for improvement in medical equipment and technology.
He remarked on past challenges in the health sector due to irregularities and looting but assured that the present government is working to rebuild and reform the healthcare system. Necessary reforms and development initiatives will be undertaken gradually to ensure healthcare services meet public expectations.
