Khulna: Deputy Director of the Local Government Division in Khulna, Md. Ariful Islam, emphasized the significance of Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophy in guiding agricultural development, rural prosperity, and human welfare. He highlighted this during a discussion meeting held at the Dakhindihi Rabindra Complex in Phultala, marking the 165th birth anniversary of the renowned poet.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ariful Islam noted that Tagore’s contributions extended beyond literature and culture, as he was also a pioneer in agriculture, rural development, and humanitarian thought. He urged the younger generation to delve into Tagore’s philosophy of agriculture and rural development in addition to his literary works and humanitarian values to foster a creative, humane, and developed society.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Khulna, Bitaan Kumar Mondal, presided over the meeting, which featured a keynote paper presented by educationist and researcher Md. Abdul Mannan on ‘Rabindranath’s Agricultural Philosophy’. Phultala Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Suchi Rani Saha, delivered the welcome speech.
The speakers at the event observed that Tagore’s ideas on agriculture and rural development continue to hold relevance today and can inspire the younger generation to promote sustainable agriculture and rural progress. The programme was attended by individuals from various walks of life, including literary enthusiasts, cultural personalities, teachers, students, and local dignitaries.
