Phultala: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman today emphasized the enduring impact of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, asserting that Tagore continues to live on in the hearts of people through his poetry, songs, dances, and literary creations. "Rabindranath's literature, music, and cultural practices are inseparable parts of Bengali life and consciousness. Bengali culture cannot flourish without Rabindranath, and Bengali literature is unimaginable without him," he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day programme marking the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at the Dakhindihi Rabindra Complex in Phultala Upazila. The minister highlighted that the joys, sorrows, and emotions of human life can be deeply realized through Tagore's creations. He noted that Tagore was born during a time of great personalities in Bengal's society and culture, leaving an indelible mark on nearly every branch of literature.
The minister also discussed Tagore's lasting influence on future generations through his literary and cultural contributions. In reference to national development, he acknowledged the significant roles played by late President Ziaur Rahman, late Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, and incumbent Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the country's literature, culture, and development. Additionally, he mentioned ongoing development initiatives, including canal excavation projects aimed at improving irrigation facilities and farmers' welfare.
The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Hoore Jannat. Special guests included Khulna-1 lawmaker Amir Ejaz Khan, Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun, Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Md Billal Hossain Khan, and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tajul Islam. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Suchi Rani Saha delivered the welcome address.
Professor Mohammad Mazaharul Hannan, an educationist and former treasurer of Khulna University, served as the keynote discussant in a session titled "Rabindranath: Poet of Peace and Humanity," where he highlighted the universal relevance of Tagore's philosophy and literary works. Following the discussion, a cultural function featuring Rabindra Sangeet, recitation, and dance performances by local artists was held.
Organizers announced that discussions, cultural programmes, and literature-based performances would continue throughout the three-day celebration.
