Narayanganj: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued a schoolgirl who had allegedly been abducted from Gaibandha and arrested the prime suspect from the Bholail Marakhalpar area under Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj on Saturday night. The arrestee was identified as Md Mehedul Islam, 19, son of Md Shahidul Islam of Ballamjhar village under Gaibandha Sadar Police Station, according to a press release issued here today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents revealed that the victim is an eighth-grade student at a local girls’ high school and also studies Arabic at a local madrasa in Sadullapur upazila. The release stated that Mehedul had been harassing the girl with unwanted marriage proposals, which she had rejected.

On June 6, while the victim was returning home from the madrasa around 8:00 am, the accused, along with several associates, allegedly abducted her from the Dakshin Kazibari Santola area under Sadullapur Police Station and took her to an undisclosed location. On June 12, the victim’s mother filed an abduction case with Sadullapur Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of RAB-13 and RAB-11 conducted a drive in the Bholail Marakhalpar area under Fatullah Police Station at around 9:25 pm on Saturday, rescuing the victim and arresting the prime suspect. The rescued schoolgirl and the accused were later handed over to Sadullapur Police Station for further legal action.
