RAB Arrests Couple for Killing Woman from Panchagarh Over Unreturned Loan

Panchagarh: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 has arrested a couple for killing a woman after she demanded her money back from village Tunirhat under Sadar police station of Panchagarh on Sunday afternoon. The arrested individuals are Md Zakir Hossain, 35, and his wife Mst Sheuly Begum, 30, from village Nekbokto Jassipara under Jaldhaka police station of Nilphamari district.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the main accused, Md Zakir Hossain, had taken Taka 17 lakh from Rupvan Akhter, 30, the wife of Sadequl Islam, promising her a job as a primary school teacher. When the job did not materialize within the specified time, Rupvan Akhter demanded her money back from Md Zakir Hossain.



Md Zakir Hossain, in an attempt to avoid returning the money, had also threatened Rupvan Akhter on various occasions. On March 1, 2026, Md Zakir Hossain lured the victim to his rented house in Islambagh Shantidhara area under Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station of Rangpur city, under the pretense of returning the money. However, Md Zakir Hossain and his accomplices strangled Rupvan Akhter to death and hanged her body in a room of the rented house before fleeing.



Following the incident, the victim’s brother, Md Ataur Rahman, filed a murder case with Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station on March 2, 2026. Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation team of RAB-13 from Rangpur Sadar and Nilphamari Camp conducted a raid in Tunirhat village of Panchagarh district, arresting the couple at 3.10 pm on Sunday.



The RAB has handed over the two arrested individuals to the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station for further legal action.
